This scope won a Brewster society People’s choice Award. Consisting of 7 tapered reflective parts, the image is a side -on look at torus (donut). The revolution part is referring to the ratio of the hole in the donut to the body of the donut. This scope is dynamic in that when the viewer rotates the entire piece, the colors in the rings changes as the light enters the windows in the sides. Tiny spheres flow in and out of the image when the scope is tilted up and down creating an immersive 3d experience. The scope features a liquid filled cell at the end.
This mirror system is comprised of 4 mirrors and 3 dichroic mirrors. First released as a teleidoscope in Kyoto Japan in 2014, winning the Brewster Society People’s Choice award. Then, using the same mirror system the liquid filled cell is added, and Phoenix Rising was introduced. The dichroic elements are placed where mirror was removed, creating fascinating patterns of dichroic wings in colors that change depending on the direction on the light entering the external windows. The cell at the end is filled with lamp worked glass including laminated dichroic glass. The mirrors are housed within a borosilicate glass tube. By painting synthetic paper with alcohol inks then insert the painted paper into the tube, followed by the mirror assembly. The painted paper hides all the inside parts, and makes a beautiful exterior presentation.
The Chameleon collection came out when Marc started experimenting with newly acquired dichroic mirror. This scope has two front-surface mirrors and one dichroic mirror side. The possibilities with this material seem endless. The glass is reflective when little light enters, and absorbent when more light enters the glass. This is absolutely amazing when utilized in a kaleidoscope. The Chameleon Kaleidoscope, by design exploits these traits. As the viewer rotates the entire scope, the dichroic mirror goes through periods of more light and less light. The result is an array of vastly different kaleidoscopic outcomes. The scope has a liquid filled cell at the end which changes the pattern in the mandala as the scope is rotated.
This scope was made specifically for the purpose of taking photographs through. Its popularity was equally appealing when the viewer just looked through the scope to observe their surroundings. A teleidoscope offers an objective view of our subjective world, giving us an opportunity to see the world in a whole new light.

Handheld Olivewood Leaf Scope
This leaf scope is made from locally-sourced Olivewood. The scope is a lathe turned
olivewood barrel, with dyed maple eye piece and turning end. The turning end rotates
smoothly on ball-bearing based system. The “leaf scope” name comes from the leaf
skeleton that enhances the rear of the object chamber. As the chamber is rotated, the
leaf will provide unique optical experiences as it comes in and out of the image. The oil-
filled chamber is filled with a variety of objects may include lamp-worked dichroic glass,
iridescent films, wires, beads, polymer clay forms, and miscellaneous small items.
The scope is a 2-mirror- 5-point system.
A stand is provided and decorated with a leaf skeleton as well.
Steve was an engineer with a woodworking/woodturning hobby. Luanne has an art
degree and has been a ceramic artist for some time focusing on sculptures and artistic
pottery for cactus and succulent displays.

workshop classes at the Convention, and the willingness of the Brewster member artists

Using Spalted maple, which is regular maple wood that has undergone the early stages of natural decay caused by fungi. This process creates dramatic visual patterns, most notably inky black "zone lines," bleached light areas, and color variations. The oil chamber kaleidoscope, is available in two mirror options either a 6-point mandala or 8 point mandala. It features four color choices of anodized aluminum body, with cherry hardwood end caps. Each jar is filled with a variety of colored glass and additionally a selection of textured dichroic glass that really makes some images pop when the light catches just right. One unique aspect to this model is that it will come with 2 empty jars as well so that you can fill and create your own amazing images! The Cordalee, a handmade kaleidoscope from woodworker/engineer Henry. This kaleidoscope will engage you completely. It is named after Corki Weeks who helped Henry get started making scopes back in 1987! Corki was the preeminent scope maker of the time and there probably isn’t a collection out there that doesn’t include some of her pieces.
The Cordalee incorporates many features within its flowing form. It is equipped with three interchangeable brass trimmed object cases that can be switched by simply pulling the magnetically held case out out the scope. Then you simply slide another one in and away you go on another visual journey. In addition, the kaleidoscope has its own internal led light source powered by three AAA batteries. You push the brass button at the front of the scope and you will have light. The light is on a timer and will shut off automatically after about a minute. The batteries are easily accessed via a compartment on the underside of the scope. All of the wood components are processed through a 25 step sanding and finishing process and all of the solid brass components are brought to a mirror finish. This produces a piece that is stunning to look at as well as to look through.
Fitted with a 2 inch crystal ball. Rather than looking at objects within a cell like on a traditional kaleidoscope, you can look at anything in your surroundings, clouds, people, pets, anything and view an amazing kaleidoscopic image. It incorporates a rotating wheel which includes three separate object cases filled with all manner of goodies. You can rotate the wheel too while simultaneously twisting a knob on the side of the wheel, this twists the object cases. The object cases can be turned in unison with the knob or can be turned individually. The end result is a very articulate dynamic image within that will give you unending pleasure.
There are a total of six separate object case which can be slipped into the wheel, mixed and matched to satisfy and delight. All of the wood and brass components of this kaleidoscope are brought to a highly polished state via an intricate finishing process that includes many steps. By simply pushing down on the brass Bezel of the object case, you will have a minute of beautifully illuminated kaleidoscope viewing. Need some more? Simply push down on the ring again and away you go.
All of the components go through a 25 step sanding and finishing process which makes them a tactile delight. The batteries for the light are replaced by removing the magnetically held lid on the bottom of the kaleidoscope.

The long object case can be twisted and slid from side to side giving you a pretty much unlimited viewing experience. Its flowing shape will enhance any space.
The Timefly a gorgeous hand made scope that will take you away. Its highly sculpted swooping shape is a pleasure to gaze upon and its extra long object case can be twisted as well as slid from side to side. This causes you to see a wide range of incredible imagery. When you slide it in one direction its as if the image is draining away from you down some infinite wormhole. When you slide in the other direction its like it is coming out of that same wormhole right at you. Then when you twist the tube a whole other set of effects happens. All of the wood components of the kaleidoscope are taken through a 25 step sanding and finishing process creating a wonderfully smooth and beautiful sculpture which will liven up any space. The Timefly is currently available in bubinga, a west African hardwood accented with maple, or maple accented with bubinga. The name comes from a strange joke by Groucho Marx or Mark Twain, one of those guys. It goes like this…”Remember, timeflies like an arrow, fruitflies like a banana. ” Something to wonder about.
The Cordalee, a handmade kaleidoscope from woodworker/engineer Henry. This kaleidoscope will engage you completely. It is named after Corki Weeks who helped Henry get started making scopes back in 1987! Corki was the preeminent scope maker of the time and there probably isn’t a collection out there that doesn’t include some of her pieces.
The Cordalee incorporates many features within its flowing form. It is equipped with three interchangeable brass trimmed object cases that can be switched by simply pulling the magnetically held case out out the scope. Then you simply slide another one in and away you go on another visual journey. In addition, the kaleidoscope has its own internal led light source powered by three AAA batteries. You push the brass button at the front of the scope and you will have light. The light is on a timer and will shut off automatically after about a minute. The batteries are easily accessed via a compartment on the underside of the scope. All of the wood components are processed through a 25 step sanding and finishing process and all of the solid brass components are brought to a mirror finish. This produces a piece that is stunning to look at as well as to look through.

Handmade tapered parlor kaleidoscope (4-2017-68) mounted on a large quartz geode from New Mexico. The sides of the scope are made with a streaky brown and white stained glass selected to coordinate with the geode base. This creates a stunning piece of art for a prominent display.

The kaleidoscope can be picked up and used like a hand-held scope by removing it from the mounting hole. This mirror configuration makes 6 images or a 3 point star.
One of his favorite stones to use in these wheels is moss agate which is translucent and provides a wispy element to the mandalas. (The mandalas are the patterns that you will see through the scope.) Since there are two wheels with different elements in each wheel, each wheels can be rotated to provide a whole different set of mandala variations. Also integrated into the wheels are various clear patterned glass that provides interesting variations in the mandala displays. This scope has been finished in a black antiqued solder look with decorative solder techniques to provide an interesting look to the scope as it sits on your shelf.

Dragonfly represents Marc’s signature style of creating 3d optical illusions with just two mirrors. He removes the mirror and replace it with hand painted paper. The ‘third’ side is the base and this is hand painted too. The floating dragonfly is made from glass on the torch using lampworking techniques to create the bug. The wings are made from dichroic glass, then attached to the body. Finally, alcohol inks are used to paint the body of the bug. The exterior is also painted glass. A liquid filled cell is then mounted it to yhr external bearing, allowing for perfect and precision movement of the object cell.
